On Simchat Torah, the day Jewish people turn the scroll from end to beginning, went from a day of joy to a day of mourning.

מן המצר קראתי יה ענני במרחב יה / Out of my distress I called upon Hashem: Hashem answered me with liberation.

The people who dwell on the land, Palestinian and Israeli, are crying out in distress. May their cries be answered with liberation and peace. Liberation is for all people, who are b'tzelem Elohim, created in the image of the Divine. Palestinians and Jewish people are tied up with one another and shared liberation is possible in our lifetimes.

May our vision of Olam Haba, a repaired and renewed world, be realized.

I re-worked this design on 24 Tishrei as the Israeli government delcared a total siege on Gaza and 150 Israeli people were held hostage within Gaza. With a broken heart, I also cry out in distress and hope for an answer of liberation for all people.

The essay inside features writings from Tehillim for times of distress, war, and deep grief.
