Maya Deren / Two Poems

Maya Deren / Two Poems

$12.00

Maya Derenkovskaya was born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1917. She entered into a world that was in the throes of its own birthing pangs–the February Revolution having just occurred and the period of Dual Power began, with two governments competing for legitimacy until the October Revolution would begin months later.

She is remembered as a brilliant filmmaker and at the fore of American experimental filmmaking. Though she was also a poet from childhood on.

The poster features a quote from a public discussion on poetics that she participated in with Dylan Thomas and Arthur Miller among others. The inside contains two of her poems.

This months poster was printed at Zygote Press in Cleveland, Ohio. JZA founder Chava Shapiro participated in a risograph workshop there in July, 2023 and printed this poster after spending a year visiting Maya Deren films in their dreams. The font was hand drawn while enjoying the long summer days by Lake Erie.
